Today, international curators, writers and collectors are looking towards South East Asia with immense interest. In Vietnam, is our artistic community prepared for this attention? Do we want it? What do we need to be aware of, what do we need to prepare and why?
‘San Art Laboratory Intensive’ is a series of conversations that will attempt to answer these questions, kick-started by particular speakers, but ultimately will be considered successful if our audience is willing with questions and comments!

‘I hate curators and art dealers. They always want to overtake my vision and challenge the price I value my art’ (Artist)
Curator Speakers:
Lisa Boulet, Associate Director, Galerie Quynh, HCMC
Mrs Tran Thi Huynh Nga, Curator and Founder of Blue Space Contemporary, HCMC
Zoe Butt, Executive Director and Curator, San Art, HCMC
Many artists in not only Vietnam, but also across the Asian region, will often state that they do not like working with curators and art dealers, that they don’t believe them to be valuable people in their own building of an artistic career. Unfortunately there are many imposters in the industry who do take regrettable advantage of artists – however what exactly does a curator and art dealer do; what are their roles and responsibilities and why are they useful people within an artistic community? What should they provide the artist and their community? Mrs. Nga, Zoe Butt and Lisa Boulet share their own experiences as contemporary art professionals, sharing practical basic guidelines on their expectations of artists in order to showcase their work locally and internationally. They will explain what a curator and collector look for in an artist, the thought-processes that go into producing exhibitions and how an artwork’s value is determined and sustained.
