Saigon-Leipzig Residency Exchange: Maix Mayer

Saigon-Leipzig: Ecologies of Water – Residency Exchange with Maix Mayer

The artist-in-residence for the first edition of our Saigon-Leipzig residency exchange in partnership with LIA is Maix Mayer.

Maix Mayer works as a media- and conceptual artist in Leipzig, Germany. After earning a diploma in Marine Ecology at the University of Rostock, he also finished his studies at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig with a diploma in Fine Arts. At the University of the Arts in Poznan, Faculty of New Media, he successfully completed his Ph.D. in the relationship between media and urbanism.

Trained in both the visual arts and natural sciences, Maix interweaves dystopian perspectives — which illustrate a world consisting of floating cities and underwater colonies as a consequence of industrialization — into his art practice. During his 4-week residency at Sàn Art, Maix carries out field research on the relationship between sound and water across Saigon, alongside events and programmes free and open to the public.

About the exchange

Co-organized with Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA), “Saigon-Leipzig: Ecologies of Water” is a city residency exchange born out of the need for cross-border collaborations, and cooperation between artistic, scientific, and technologic spheres, in the preservation and revitalization of ecosystems. This exchange is supported in part by the City of Leipzig Office for International Affairs, Deutsch-Vietnamesisches Hause e.V., and Leipziger Wasserwerke.
